Tips to Avoid Vacation Weight Gain

Wednesday, July 16, 2014

“Summertime and the living is easy” which means those planned relaxing getaways are soon coming to fruition. But before you board the plane or start packing your car for the intended adventure, consider these tips to help stay on track so your perfect tan, instead of an extra 5 pounds, is all you come home with.

If you’re staying at a hotel find out if they have a gym or swimming pool and schedule in some exercise time each day. Maybe it’s 30 minutes on the elliptical followed by a sauna or a morning swim in the sunshine before breakfast. Many of the bigger hotel chains provide such amenities and they are available to guests at no extra charge.

If tennis courts are provided, step outside to enjoy those mountain views while taking in a game and ask the concierge if there’s somewhere nearby to rent bikes or for recommended scenic walks. Bring your yoga mat and practice your downward dog on the beach. You’ll be so caught up in a new and beautiful surrounding burning those calories won’t feel like hard work!

And when it comes to what you’re ordering from the menu, find out what the catch of the day is, especially in tropical settings, as fish and shellfish will be what most restaurants do best. But if you choose the lobster, leave the melted butter behind and save those Points Plus values for a second piña colada or dessert.

Be daring and fill up on different kinds of fruits and vegetables. Have a slice of guava for an afternoon snack or some black radishes, spicier in flavor to their crimson counterparts, to make your salad sing. It will be a fun and flavorful new experience without dipping into your daily points allowance.

And if you’re really craving comfort foods like cheese or chocolate, find healthy ways to get your fix and keep your portions under control like ordering an appetizer of mushrooms stuffed with ricotta or sharing a chocolate mousse with your traveling companion.

If you’re going somewhere off the map so not likely to find your safe snacks like rice cakes or almonds or even your favorite branded mustard on supermarket shelves, bring along your own supply.

With a little planning you can have a healthy and active vacation resulting in renewed vitality and looking gorgeous in all the pictures you’ll surely want to share in the social media realm!

Now go have fun and enjoy every minute off the clock!

DITTO all the Android request. It has been way too long on iPad only. Android is outselling iPad, iPhones, iAnything for quite a while now. Come on WW, Android users are needing a helpful tool for their kitchens, too.

1) It's not about how fast you get there just as long as you cross the finish line. 2) If you don't believe in yourself, how do you expect others to?

Why not include the serving size and the point value with the list ...Why not suggest fruit and vegetable platters ...This seems deceptive and sort of mean spirited..

Smart Ones Packaging

Wednesday, June 25, 2014

Some of you may have noticed discrepancies on Weight Watchers Smart Ones products recently. Weight Watchers Smart Ones products are in the process of reformulating many items in their product line. As a result, it is possible for a period of time that that there could be two versions of some items in the marketplace. It is always best to calculate PointsPlus value from the nutrition label if there is a difference between the tracker/scanner and the package. Above all, members should rest assured that the PointsPlus value on the package will always be reflective of the product inside.

How come Smart Ones doesn't use brown rice instead of white rice when WW prefers the former?

Push Notifications are Fixed and Better than Ever!

Wednesday, June 18, 2014

For members that are fans of our push notifications, we’d like to apologize for the bugs you’ve experienced recently. The good news is that they’re fixed! Plus, we’ve added more messages — so you can keep tracking and getting that dose of encouragement along the way.

Push notifications are text messages that you enable on your phone so that you can automatically receive inspiring messages based on your tracking habits. To get them, you must be using our tracking app on iOS or Android. Here is a simple visual guide on how to turn on your push notifications.

How are push notifications different from the existing reminders in the Tracker app? The reminders are set up to appear at specific times that you set up yourself to track breakfast, lunch or dinner. Push notifications are based on your behavior, so they’ll only pop up when you need them the most. (The existing reminders are still available, and you can still set up custom ones,
too.)

Now that you know just how awesome push notifications are, go turn them
on!

Happy tracking,

The Mobile Team

Weight Watchers Mobile for Android Gets a Facelift With v3.0!

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

Our Android team has been hard at work making some great updates to our Mobile app. Socks, prepare to be knocked off.

  • We’ve updated the navigation and de-cluttered the Main Menu.
  • We pulled out some menu items (notably the Barcode Scanner and calculator) to make them easier to spot in the bottom nav.
  • Looking for the Search bar? Just look for the magnifying glass in the upper right corner of any page.
  • We heard some frustration over our loading content pop-up, so we replaced it with a spinner.
But here’s the really juicy part: In this release, we’ve added a new section (for Android 4.0+) called “Get Answers” where you can find info on account maintenance, tech help, program information and Lifetime Membership. And if you ask a few questions and can’t find what you’re looking for, you now have the option to speak with a live person!

So if you’ve got an Android device, pop on over to the Google Play store and update to 3.0! (Got an iOS? Updates will be coming your way soon!)

On Mother’s Day, Give Mom a Break!

Monday, May 05, 2014

My mother is the most caring woman I know, but here’s the thing, she’s loves to be in control! Though I don’t live with my parents anymore, when I visit and offer to cook, my mom doesn’t allow it since she likes to make my favorite dishes. She’ll go shopping to buy me new clothes since I’m losing weight—46 pounds down, and counting!—but she’ll never treat herself to a massage or even a pedicure. She’ll say she wants to lose a few pounds herself (her words, “My hips are too big!”), but she is always too busy caring for everyone else to focus on her own goals. So here’s what I decided I’m going to do on Mother’s Day this year: I am going to take control!

I’m no cooking pro, but these Mother’s Day recipes will be perfect for this Sunday. Plus, my mom always likes to save money, so instead of taking her for a fancy facial, I’ll create an at-home spa of our own. Since we tend to go out to brunch after church a few times a month, I will share this Brunch Buffet Cheat Sheet with her—you’re welcome, Mom—so she will always be in the know. One more thing: My mom is always spewing wisdom (and she’s becoming much sassier with age), so I’ll be sure to share the advice of these moms’ with her, too—I know she’ll get a kick out of it!

My mother has always taken care of my three brothers and I, and I can’t wait to return the favor. Though I know you shouldn’t save all the love for one day of the year, I’m going to make sure that Sunday is extra special.

What are your plans for Mother’s Day? Are you being pampered, or will you be doing the pampering?

Glitch Alert!

Thursday, May 01, 2014

If you tried to update your weight today, you may have gotten an error message saying that you have no internet connection. Actually, your internet is fine — and your weight is being saved. (If you open your weight Tracker, you’ll see it.) It’s just a glitch on our end. Our engineers are working to fix the bug, and your weight Tracker should be back to normal shortly.
