I was on the road from Chincoteague, VA to Lewes DE yesterday morning. Where I live in Virginia there are no close Wawa's. If you do not have Wawa in your area, they are only the most wonderful gas station/convenience stores in the world! They have a kiosk where you type in the sandwich you want and Voila! It magically appears in front of you (after about 5 minutes and once you have payed). So, going the attempt at healthy route I thought I'd skip the Mickey D's and try for some place where I can build my own "healthy" meal. I had my blackberry with me and typed in the nutrition facts on pre-packed vegetables with light ranch dressing. 2 points, hurray! Then I tried to log on to the Wawa website to get nutrition information for my sandwich but the link was not compatible with the handheld. So I shrugged my shoulders, said to myself "this won't be so bad" and I went ahead and ordered the following:
Turkey hoagie
whole wheat shorti roll
no cheese
light on the mayonnaise
lettuce
tomato
onion
pickles
I also got a small chicken noodle soup because I LOVE IT! Even though it's about 100 outside I still love soup no matter what time of year.
When I returned home I got on the computer and checked out Wawa's site. They had a whole section that allowed you to build your meal and then revealed the nutrition facts. Are you ready for the unveiling? The soup brought in a measly 2 points but the sandwich...drum roll please........14 points! Are you kidding me? For a turkey sandwich on whole wheat! With all those veggies?! In hindsight I could have skipped the mayo or replaced it with mustard but I didn't even get cheese! That's more than half my points for the whole day! Well, Wawa, I still love you even though you tricked me, and I will still go to you when I am in need of a sandwich, but next time I will get a whole wheat sandwich (no hoagie) without mayo and maybe I'll try the chicken.
Until next time, eat, drink and be yourself!
