I love my Turkey Burgers!!

Tonight was another wonderful turkey burger night!

What can I say? Lately it has been my protien of choice! They are quick and easy on the grill, super inexpensive (got this last pack of ground turkey 93/7 for $1.89 because it was onsale and I had a $1 off coupon) and so versatile! I've developed quite the turkey burger recipe bank but nights like tonight I just chop up some baby spinach, mushrooms, garlic and mix it in with the meat. I can take 3 ounces of raw ground turkey and make a huge burger that is filled with veggies and very low in points. That's exactly what I did tonight. I had it on a Sandwich Thin with a teaspoon of light mayo, two nice tomato slices and some raw red onion. It was a wonderful 4 point sandwich and so I had it with a corn on the cob and 9 baked tator tots for a total of 9 points for a very filling dinner.

I thought I'd share some of my variations on turkey burgers. A lot of people start out by trying plain turkey burgers and they are disappointed. My plain turkey burger is very flavorful and then all the different mix-ins that I use make them even more interesting! I also use my Tupperware Burger Press to make the burgers uniform in size and shape---so the men in my household barely notice that I'm serving them something other then beef.

My "Plain" Turkey Burger
1.25 lbs ground turkey
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
salt & ground pepper to taste

Mix everything together and form 4 turkey burger patties. I also sometimes slice up some mushrooms to add to this, which will just about double the number of patties you get. Spray with cooking spray before grilling or cook in a teaspoon of oil in a pan on the stove.

My Ranch Turkey Burgers
1.25 lbs ground turkey
1 packet of Ranch Dressing mix (dry)
1/2 sweet onion, very finely diced
1 green pepper, very finely chopped

Mix everything together and form 5-6 turkey burgers (the veggies bulk them up). Spray with cooking spray before grilling.

My Spinach Feta Turkey Burgers (also great with ground chicken, these are probably my FAVORITE!)
1.25 lbs ground turkey
2 oz reduced fat or FF feta cheese, crumbled
2 large handfuls of baby spinach, finely chopped
6-10 small mushrooms, finely chopped
1 teaspoon minced garlic

Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Forms 6+ burgers, depending on how big you make them. The veggies really bulk them up. Spray with cooking spray and grill.

My Spinach/Mushroom/Parmasean Turkey Burgers
1.25 lbs ground turkey
1 pack of frozen, chopped spinach
1 package mushrooms, sliced
1 teaspoon minced garlic
2 tablespoons parmasean cheese
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon olive oil

Heat oil in a pan, add garlic, mushrooms, spinach and oregano and cook until the mushrooms are tender. Add the parmasean cheese, mix, and remove from the heat. Allow the mixture to cool before mixing about half of it in with the ground beef to form 6+ patties. I save the rest of the mixture and use it to stuff chicken breasts and also in omlettes.

Okay, so you undersand now how much I love mushrooms and spinach. I feel like they add such delicious flavor and moisture to turkey burgers. Of course if you don't like them you can leave them out or substitute with other veggies like peppers, onions, or even some grated zucchini. I also love to experiment with different kinds of reduced fat cheeses....sometimes it's cheddar, sometimes it's pepper jack, or whatever I have in the house!

Hopefully some turkey burger nay-sayers will give them another chance! If you have any great recipes for turkey burgers, I am always looking for something new and would love to hear them!!

Have a great night everyone!
Melissa

These all sound so good. The picture looks great! Sometimes I mix ground turkey breast with lean (94%) ground beef and then put in veggies, etc. That is good, too.
