Free Bananas

Written by weightwatchers.com editors on 12/16/2010 10:05 AM

Post Image Yesterday I read a comment from a WeightWatchers.com user. She said she is eating peanut butter again now that bananas are a "free" food. A simple statement and in my opinion, a VERY amusing one.

So it got me wondering…now that fruit has zero PointsPlus values, how are you using the PointsPlus values you used to use for fruit?

I don't understand. Can someone give me a definitive answer? I was told bananas are free UNLESS you blend them in a smoothie. Why? I put in OJ (and count the points) and a banana and some ice...nothing else. So why do they count as points then? And how many points? Someone please respond that can give an official answer. Thanks!!

Banana's are NOT zero points if you blend them in a smoothie.....does anybody know the count? I think it's 2...

smoothies for bfast! Two bananas, frozen berries, huge handful of spinach and water to cover. Its very filling and satisfying and nutritious to start the day out feeling this way, and yet 0 pts.

100% Bananas. A whole banana was a huge no no on the old plan :) Loving the new program!

Now that fruits are 0 points, I have started enjoying a slice of cheese or a cup of milk.

Don't mean to be a downer, but I have a hard time wrapping my head around certain foods being zero points, like bananas. We'll see!

I adore bananas and spending 2 points each on them (on the old points system) was difficult. Now that they're free (hooray!) I'm enjoying those extra points on warm dinner breads!

Honestly, I rarely eat bananas. I was on WW before the fruits and veggies were all 0 pts pls. I know bananas are a high calorie fruit, so I only eat them every once in a while. I would rather eat carrots and green peppers or an apple and an orange over a banana. And if I eat a banana I try and leave atleast one point at the end of the day. Is that wrong?

While I love that fruit is "free", the carbohydrates are KILLING me. I love my starches and am having a hard time reining them in.

The points book says 1/2 cup of salsa is zero points. How many points is it if you have more than 1/2 cup?

Eating a bit more lean meat and eggs, adding some whole grains and getting my milk and healthy oils into the day!

I was reading through comments even from a few days ago, and wanted to share some information my Meeting Leader shared with us. Someone asked, how many bananas is too many and you should start counting them? Basically, our leader (and the WW literature) says that you should eat until you are physically satisfied, ie full. I find that with a banana, I really only need to eat one and maybe an apple and I feel full enough that I'm not hungry until my next meal. I love love love free fruit! So easy.

I cut up all types of fruits and use Walden Farms calorie free syrups. There are no calories, fat, carbs, gluten or sugars of any kind! I have strawberry, caramel and chocolate. So bananas and my chocolate syrup is 0 points! Or for a quick pick me up I blend a banana w/ 4 oz of milk, ice and chocolate and caramel syrup for a great shake!

I'm putting frozen berries on top of my sugar free Jello with fat free Cool Whip. Never, ever used to do that!

I bought frozen berries, all varieties, and when I am making dinner, I put a cupfull out to defrost. I then have the berries after my tea after dinner, with splenda and cinammon. So fantastic! It's still very frosty and is a wonderful frozen dessert.

Applesauce is awesome with cinnamon and some Splenda/stevia to sweeten. Also bananas are so yummy and filling!! I saw a post from another about baking frozen fruit (berries, peaches, cherries, etc. whatever you want to throw in) at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. I did this last night and added some light whipped cream.... yum.... This would be great for those of you out there who are experiencing a really cold winter.

An idea for a fruit is taken cubed pineapple from a can and madarin oranges and bananas and eat them as a snack. I live on a island but I dont love all the fruit on this island so I eat it from a can and it works
