Why 25 points a day works for me...

29 points is too much for my body to lose. I have tracked for a week now on both plans, the old FlexPoints and PointsPlus, and when I reach my 20 allotted points at the old plan, I am between 23.5 and 27 points on PointsPlus. That means, when I am already done for the day on FlexPoints, I keep on eating (and gaining) on PointsPlus. Let me give you an example:

Almost every morning I eat non-fat yogurt [(150 gr) I count in gr since I am from Germany ;)] which is 1 pt, together with a banana and an apple or some other 0 points fruit and two tablespoons of lot fat granola cereal for 2 points. That makes 3 points on the new plan, 4 on the old, since the banana counted a point on the old one.

At noon I might for example have 60 gr rice, 1 tablespoon of oil and 6 tablespoons of apple sauce with cinnamon for something sweet. On the old plan, 3 points + 3 points + 1 point on Flex points = 7 points. On the new one, 6 + 3 + 2 = 11 points. So, adding breakfast and lunch, I have 11 points on the old plan (more than half of my allotted points) and 14 on PointsPlus, which is less than half of my allotted points.

Dinner could be a "Bauernsalat" - my favorite meal EVER. I put tomato, yellow bell pepper, cucumber and feta cheese together, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and salt and pepper. I eat a toast together with it, so I can dip it in the oil at the end. lol
On FlexPoints 3 points (oil) and 4 points (cheese) and 1 point (toast) I would have used 8 points, together with milk for 1 point I would stop eating: I reached my 20 points. On PointsPlus 3 + 3.5 + 2 + 1.5 leads me to 10 points. Together with the 14 points from earlier on I land at 24 points. DONE.

Obviously my days vary, but in average I must eat 25-26 points in order to lose weight. I ate that amount during the past days and lost 3 pounds, after gaining weight for almost two weeks eating and tracking exactly on PP. I am happy to have found out what my problem was and make this plan work for me too. :)

Has anybody else to adjust? Or can you all eat your DP's and WP's??

Thanks for this, I want to do both plans also and see what works. All I have left is my flexpoints slider.

can you lose if you do not use all of your points? It is an awful lot more food than I am used to eating, although I have probably been eating the wrong things. marsha

OH MY GOODNESS! Thank you so much for this article. I'm so happy to have found this. I'm having terrible weight GAIN on the PP. To date I'm 15 lbs away from my pre-WW weight! Dreadful for me! I thought it was because I was eating more fruit than I used to & that my body was having a hard time processing the sugars from the fruit. Aside from that I never felt like I was lacking, but like you since I was allotted 29 I took them ALL! On the old plan I got 20 points per day.

That is so awesome! I am glad this change is working for you, too. :) I have felt "hungry" the first 2 days (when I changed to 25 points) but then I made adjustments in my food choices and it works fine, plus I am always satisfied full. :) Keep up the good work!

I already see a difference in my weight, going from 29 points to about 25 , at last out of the 160's been stuck in it for 4 weeks now at 160 & 160.8 .......Thanks steffi11...... also I have been enjoying fish for dinner about 4-5 oz with lemon or lime juice spray butter and 1tbsp of bread crumbs w/ salad & was still able to have milk & ww cchip cookies for a snack and stay at 25 points for the day!

I don't use any weekly points, but I do use like half of my activity points if I am still hungry. If I move for about an hour (jogging, Zumba) I use about 4-6 of my activity points. Just juggle around with the points for a while and look what works best for you. :)

Reading this post really got me thinking. When I first did WW on the plan previous to this one I was at 27 points a day and lost 18 lbs. This plan has me eating 34 day. Too much in my opinion. I think for me I need to be eating about 30 pts/day to really lose weight. Do you use your activity pts or your extra pts in addition to your 25? If so how many? Thanks!

Minnie, You are just the perfect Weight Watcher and a really huge inspiration for me!! :) Your comment just made me realize that I might cut down on the oils (on some days). Hope you can find out the best way to lose those pounds!! Good luck. Msmit002, You are so lucky. I hope I will get there eventually! :)

And for me, I think I am the opposite. My previous foray with WW was such that I had to eat every available point I was afforded or i didn't lose at all. Some people will be more muscle-bound than others. For those folks - the people that look good despite being heavier. you know who I'm talking about - they will be the folks that need to eat everything. If you eat a decent amount of protein, and perform at least moderate weight-bearing exercises, then you will slowly become one of 'us'.

Thanks for the comparison! I have been on the new program for 8 weeks and have been up and down with about 1 lb lost. I only have 7 to lose to get back to goal wgt and have been struggling too. I think it's good for maintaining but not so good when you have less than 10 to lose. I was thinking about going back to the old system- had lost easily- but now will just cut back a few points a day to see if that will kick start me.

I have been eating all my DP, none of my WP and none of my 49 to 52 earned AP and am losing a well-balanced 1.4 to 1.7 lb per week in my 11 weeks in WW on the new Points Plus program. I limit my healthy oils to 2 teaspoons a day, hit all my healthy checks (dairy, vitamin, water, fruits and veg) and mix it all up every other day; meaning a new activity or a new food or eating dinner for breakfast just to keep my body on its toes! I'm keeping it fun and it's working wonderfully!

I am glad you found it helpful. I am not saying that 25 will certainly work for everybody, since I don't know what kind of food other people are eating, but at least in my case 29 is too much. Have you done FlexPoints or any of the other plans before? If so, I suggest calculating on both plans a bit so you can narrow in on your personal average. In any case, wish you luck with your weight loss. Don't give up because it is frustrating!! You can sure make it work!! :)

Your post was very helpful, I always make sure i eat 29 points and for the last 4 weeks my weight has not moved. I work out 5x's a week. I'm 5'2" and my weight is 160 Ive lost 12lbs the first 4 weeks.....it's really fustrating to not see any results week after week. I will this week try 25 points and see what happens!
