I commute through New York City’s Port Authority and it’s packed at rush hour. In one area of the bus terminal, there are two escalators directly next to a staircase. The line of people waiting to use the escalator is amazing – especially when the staircase is virtually empty.
I wonder what it would take for people to use the stairs? Do we actually have to turn off the escalators? (Or maybe we need to convert the stairs into an interactive piano like they did here.)
In today’s busy society, every little step counts. So I implore all the escalator waiters at Port Authority to take the stairs. Get some exercise. It’s good for you. And it’ll get you wherever you’re going more quickly.
