Better with a little butter

No, I am not paid by the dairy board and yes, I do know that butter contains some unhealthy fats.

But I also know that it's okay to eat any food in moderation and that just a touch of butter, seems to make so many foods taste that much better.

One teaspoon of butter has just 1 PointsPlus value and goes a long way in terms of flavor. So sauté some vegetables in it, scramble an egg in it or spread some over a piping hot baked potato.

For those of you who are thinking that I’m a nutritionist gone crazy, please remember that I am talking about a teaspoon of butter every once in a while. After all, when your food tastes better and you’re more satisfied with what you’re eating, it’s easier to stick with a healthy lifestyle long-term.

And there’s nothing crazy about that!

    I love butter but I also have a heart condition & cannot have. I do miss butter.

    I am thrilled to hear you say that :) I love butter and have not given it up. I am so tired of the food industry trying to convince us that a manufactured product with additives is somehow better for us than just using pure and simple products that our grandmothers used. Moderation is definitely the key to using butter, cream, chocolate, etc. Just a little bit keeps me happy and I stay within my points for the day. Again, thank you for saying this!

    I prefer real butter over fake margarine. So I agree, a little on occassion won't hurt.

    You got that right! I "budget" one tsp of real butter on my grits each morning for breakfast! So worth it!

    I use Brummel & Brown. You get a tablespoon for 1 pt. It has a great butter tast blended with natural yogurt. Love it!

    I really like your statement about sticking with a healthy lifestyle long-term if your food tastes better. This is very much the case with me. I don't use butter that often, but I've become a real fan of french onion dip. If you buy the right one, it can be 1 ppv for 2 Tbsps. That goes a LONG way in a baked potato...

    I love a little bit of butter on air popped popcorn. I agree, a little bit goes a long way and one point for a teaspoon is worth it!

    I totally agree. Almost any cooked vegetable is better with butter. And especially for those of us who had given it up for so long, it just takes a very little bit to really make an impact.

    We're another family that chose to eat real, whipped butter rather than a chemical stew one or two molecules away from plastic. Then we realized something interesting: One tub of whipped butter lasts for a couple of months! We used to go through a tub of margarine in a little over a week.

    All I can say is "thank you"! So many "diets" claim how bad butter is to use, but WW allows us to make a choice. Personally, I would rather choose real butter over an over-processed chemical designed to resemble butter. I make a choice - and I'm happy with that!

    My favorite dessert is a banana, pan sauteed in a tsp of butter. The sugars in the banana caramelize and I swear it reminds me of bananas foster! Incredibly satisfying and a total of 1 point.

    Land O' Lakes makes a cinnamon sugar butter...1 teaspoon adds a LOT of flavor to microwaved Granny Smith apple & cranberries. Way better than spray butter and sweetener.

    Do you know the difference between a bad cook and a good cook? A stick of butter. I am not serious about using the entire stick, but the taste of real butter on some foods can't be duplicated. Portion control is sthe answer

    So I'm curious...Is marjarine really any better for you? I've always been under the impression that real is better (in moderation of course). I don't use fat-free cheese either (although the 2% stuff is pretty good).

    I like Land O'Lakes light butter. Even my husband who has a serious butter jones had to admit it was "acceptable."
