How to choose my goal weight

I have been thinking (again) about what to choose for a goal weight. When I previously reached it, I choose a weight that was near the bottom of my weight range. I maintained for about 1 yr then everything fell apart.

Going to the meetings for monthly weigh in became a chore. I got stopped logging my food, stress at work increased ten fold, My thryroid decided to stop working. Then in an attempt to decrease my work stress, I switched to the night shift. This is the worst shift for proper eating never mind sleeping. It did get me away from most of the stress but was a killer to do. Then my Mom became ill & passed away. So I regained all the lost weight plus another 14 lbs.

Now my thyroid is under control & I have retired. I am doing WW strickly on-line so can not use inconvient time & location as an excuse. I know that I must log each meal & I must continue to exercise no matter what is going on.

I am currently within 10 lbs of the goal weight I currently picked. I choose one on the high end of my wt range. I did that deliberately as I want it to be a weight I can maintain for life.

When I picked the origional goal, my leader advised me to choose it a little higher and live with that weight for a while. She said I could always change my goal weight in the future. I didn't listen but I am now. She is a wise woman who has maintained for years. I was thinking of lowering it another 5 lbs but will wait. One of my WW friends, Linda, helped me remember my leaders comment & I thank her for that.

    :) I guess we will have a sharpe puppy (not sure that is spelled correctly) badge of success! Have you seen those wrinkly faced dogs? they are unusual looking. Ellen, can't wait until our schedules for being around are in sinc again. I miss our frequent messaging. Theresa, I am going to post to you separately.

    Oh I so know what you mean about loose skin. No tummy tuck for me either. Phyllis so funny that you should mention toning that area. I have been thinking the same thing. No clue re the neck either. I doubt that retinol helps sagging neck skin. How about if we wear it proudly like a badge of success??

    I also picked a goal weight at the top of my weight range. And Phyllis, I'm concerned about loose skin goal weight is 103 lbs from my start weight, and over 120 lbs from my max wt. No tummy tucks here either, so I'm just praying that it shrinks somehow.

    Ellen, the thing I am most worried about is loose skin on my neck and an apron stomach. I'm hoping texercise will help with the stomach, I'm not sure what to do about the neck. When I reach my goal, I will have lost 40 lbs. I read losing weight slowly helps with sagging skin, I also read elasticity in the skin decreases as we age. My friend who lost over 100 lbs on WWs had a tummy tuck, but at approximately $10,000 I will not be doing that :)

    Phyllis, I so agree re the parties. I never thought of making intermittent goals. Great idea & motivation. I used to be 5'3 but now 5'2. My current goal is 135. The last time it was 120. I will ask my md re weight goal. Good idea on that too.

    Ellen, my doc recommended my goal be at the high end of normal weight range. I am 5'6", he recommended 147lbs. My current goal is 160+, that is because I set intermittent goals of 5% of my current weight. It gives me a little "charge" when I reach a goal and set a new one :). I love the on-line program. I am not a "meeting person", I dislike showers, weddings, sales parties (avon, tuperware, etc) and I love playing on-line--so this is the mode for me :)
