Flying Horses

No visit to Martha’s Vineyard is complete without a ride on the Flying Horses in Oak Bluffs. Maybe you call this type of ride a carousel or merry-go-round, but Martha’s Vineyard locals affectionately refer to the ride as the Flying Horses. A number of years ago, DH and I tried our hand at catching the brass ring while vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard with my sister and brother-in-law. The Flying Horses originally resided at Coney Island, but were moved to Oak Bluffs in 1884. As our nation’s oldest platform carousel, constructed by Charles Dare in 1876, the amusement ride is a national landmark.

I’ve been on a merry-go-round this week, and the days flew by as an indistinguishable carousel blur. My mood has been up and down as often as the flying horses. When we feel Life has us on an amusement park ride, it can be difficult to remain OP…difficult, but not impossible.

Yesterday, I promised “to take better care of myself, so I can better take care of others.” I can’t say I had a perfect WW day because I didn’t earn APs, but I did take care of myself in a variety of ways.

Yesterday, I took care of myself in the following ways…
  • Staying in touch with this community
  • Planning a 26 DP day
  • Shopping for healthy foods
  • Using the WW cell phone app at the grocery store
  • Getting a mani-pedi
  • Buying a bouquet of autumn flowers
  • Buying a bale of hay to create a fall vignette
  • Carrying water with me in the car
  • Eating out “simply”…fish and steamed veggies
  • Using the WW app in the restaurant
  • Ending the day at 25 DP
  • Meeting the GHGs
  • Going to bed early
Today, I will take care of myself in the following ways…
  • Staying in touch with you
  • Planning, eating, and tracking a 26 DP day
  • Meeting the GHGs
  • Continuing to “autumn-ize” the house & yard
  • Drinking more water
  • Remembering to wear my pedometer
  • Taking a walk
  • Buying pumpkins with the grandkids
  • Buying some wrapping paper & ribbon for my gift wrap center
  • Going to bed early
A balanced life for me includes balance in the 6 F’s…faith, family, friends, fitness, finances, and fun. When these 6 facets of my life work in harmony, I experience peace and joy. Currently, due to circumstances beyond my control, there is an imbalance. Remaining OP helps me stay healthy and focused, so what I can control isn’t negatively impacted by what I can’t control.

Thank you, friends, for all your support this week. I haven’t been able to visit your blogs or comment as often as usual due to intervening circumstances. I’ll be playing catch-up this weekend. I wish all of you experience your own peace of mind and your own joie de vivre!

Learning the Weight Watcher program helps me maintain harmony in my life,

great post and growing up in South Louisiana near New Orleans, we always called the "Flying Horses" too! We also called vacation homes or lake houses, "Camps."
