Drunk Food

Ah drunk eating, the bane of every college kids existence.

I always did so well until the weekend hit.

Jim Beam, Jack Daniels and their friend Cabernet have a vendetta against my healthy eating habits.

It’s 3 to 1. I don’t stand a chance!

I had to find some “healthier” options to have on hand when I came home after a party because the drunk calories were really hindering my efforts.

Crunchy

I pre-portion out these snacks into plastic tupperware (plastic bags just beg for the snack to be dumped on the floor, crushed or dumped into my mouth funnel style).

Crunchy and cheese are some of drunk people’s favorite words. So when you put them together, it’s like drunk Christmas! Cheetos used to be my favorite thing to nibble (inhale) after a night out. But I always ate straight out of the bag, which meant I ended up eating nearly the entire bag without realizing it. To fix this issue while still getting my crunchy cheese fix, I pre-portioned out Baked! Cheetos instead. I also loved the Grilled Cheese flavor of Snikiddy All Natural Puffs.

100-calorie fat free popcorn is an amazing late-night snack after a few hours full of liquid courage. It fills you up fast, is cheap, delicious and really fun to eat. I always buy the single-serving bags because after a few drinks, eating just one serving size becomes less of a concern as I focus on not falling down....

I know that when you are intoxicated, the healthy food is not what you’re craving (Wait! This Cheeto is a carrot! I demand a refund!) but hear me out. Carrots and hummus are an incredibly satisfying drunk snack. Carrots are slightly sweet and have the most amazing crunch. Hummus is salty, slightly buttery tasting and strongly flavored. The stronger the flavor, the easier it is to stop eating it. I portion out hummus into plastic dip cups but I don’t worry about measuring the carrots, there are only so many that you can eat.

Pizza

Pizza is a staple drunk food for almost every college student. JMU had a drunk pizza at the late-night take out place.

I mean I never ate it.
 ↑Lie

But pizza is caloric, fatty, filled with grease and really easy to overeat. Instead I make a skinny pizza pocket (patent pending ;)

Ingredients
1 Flatout Light Italian Wrap
1-2 Mini Babybel light Mozzarella cheese (shredded)
 3 Tbsp Fat-Free Marinara Sauce
Handful of baby spinach or whatever veggies you like.
 Italian spices

Directions

Before you go out, spread marinara on tortilla, top with shredded cheese, spinach (veggies) and spices. Fold up like a burrito and lightly broil in your oven until the tortilla begins to crisp. Remove and wrap in paper towel and store in glass if possible.

When you come home, either put the pizza pocket in the microwave for 45 second to 1 minute or broil (depending on state of intoxication)  in your oven for 5 minutes, or until it is warm and you think the cheese has melted.

Drunk Sandwich

My friends and I loved a drunk sandwich. They are easy, portable and can be eaten while roaming the halls of your apartment complex.

I am a mature adult now.

Remember, I own a mop.

Our sandwich of choice was a PB&J with BBQ chips.

It was amazing. Drunk or not.

I began to miss it when I vowed to slim up. I’d watch my friends longingly as they crunched on the peanut butter partnership with chips.

Chip-nut-butter and Jelly Sandwich

Ingredients
1-2 slices of light whole wheat bread (depending on level of hunger, sometimes I only want a little sandwich. I cut one piece of bread in half)
1 serving PB2 (you can use regular peanut butter but it will have more calories)
1/2 a bag of BBQ Popchips (the single serving bag)
1 1/2 Tbsp sugar-free jelly (like the kind by Smuckers. Alternatively you could use fresh berries, I love blueberries)

Directions

Toast the bread but do it like this (trust me)
Spread the PB2 on the bread
Spread the jelly (or fruit) on the bread
Place Popchips on the bread and top with the other slice.

Enjoy!

And remember, always drink responsibly and sip consciously!

Thank you for the great ideas! I like the drunk sandwhich and pizza ideas! I sometimes jones for pb&j! The hubbs and I are in our 50s, but we still have a good time. We're still very active socially and tip the glass with our friends - hope that never changes! I love the fact that there's a way to feed your hunger pangs so you don't get off track. Enjoy college, it's one of the best times you'll have in life!!!

Great suggestions! The drunk munchies are definitely a win-lose situation, one of those instant gratification moments for sure. Although if you're still having your healthy wits about you, you're probably not drunk enough, hehe. Looks like you have a yummy, healthy selection to choose from that'd match any drunky's munch of choice: greasy-ish, crunchy, cheesy, junk-foody-ish. Thanks for doing the leg work for me!

PB2 is a product by Bell Plantation, it's a powdered peanut butter that you add water to. It doesn't taste exactly like peanut butter but it's lower calorie and fat but the serving size is double what it is for the reciprocal values of peanut butter. I don't eat it that often but every now and then it's great!

I don't get the appeal of alcohol. Why do you feel the need to drink to excess?

I love that you're so prepared for drunk eating!! I'm jealous of that amount of self control. I wish I had that when I was in my early 20's and partying 3 nights a week!! BRAVO TO YOU!! Question--what is PB2? LOL
